Enagize

In Te Ngahere Whaea Gina came to Paihia School to do some more energize with us. We really just did a recap to make sure that we were listening to the past couple lessons. We did all four of the different food groups. They are meat, grain, milk and veggies. Milk helps are bones stay strong and healthy. Grains gives us energy to keep us going. Meat gives us protein  which helps our muscles. Veggies gives us vitamins to keep our body healthy. After she left we made a DLO about what we were learning. I will use this learning to help make sure that i’m eating healthy. How many food groups are there.
Hope you enjoy the DLO

Duffy Show

In Te Ngahere and at Paihia School some people came to perform a Duffy show. When we walked into the whare (were the show was) there was a guy playing his guitar and swing his  hair around. All the little kids started laughing. They did a show about a game called Magic Bricks and how they got stuck in the game and got out again. My favorite part was when they did a dance to get out of the game. I think they were trying to teach us  not to always play video games and play outside with your friends. My favorite part was when he fell off the blocks and landed on the ground because he made funny sound effects.
Has a duffy show ever came to your school before?

Ki O rahi Rush

In Te Ngahere some of the year 6s, 7s and 8s went to a ki o rahi tournament. We went to  Simpson park in Moerewa. We played three teams. We won 1 game and lost the other two. The first game we played were playing year 7 and 8s. We lost that game 21 to 1. The second game we  played we won 13 to 3. The last game we played we lost 16 to 2. I enjoyed getting to play and trying to rip other people's tags. What I could do better is not to chase so that I don’t get tired after the first run. Do you play ki o rahi?

Mathematics with coordinates

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about coordinates in math. We first learnt about  coordinates. Then we did a word problem about a banana cake. We had to plot down  coordinates that we were given. We had to draw a map of all the aisles for a supermarket but we could only use the coordinates that we were given. One of the coordinates were given are A1 to E1 so we would have to find those coordinates and connect them together by writing what they were(dairy,Meat or Fruit) along the boxs or colour code them. We had to do that with lots of other coordinates. I found the coordinates  hard because it was new learning for me and also I didn’t get it at first. I enjoyed drawing a supermarket using coordinates. When you are doing coordinates you always start with the x axis across then the y axis up. I think that coordinates are easy once you get the hang of it. Are coordinates easy for you?

Boat Safety

In Te Ngahere Tracy came to speak to us about being safe on a boat.
She said that there were five things that were really important when
you go on a boat. One is always wear a life jacket, two have a
waterproof phone or a emergency beacon, three Tell someone
where you are going and when you will be back, four Check the
weather and five put your safety first. Tracy also told us how to use
flares and all the different flares. What I learnt from that was to
always have an emergency beacon or waterproof phone. Now that
I know this I now know how to be safer on a boat. Did you know
this already?

STEAM CHALLENGE

In Te Ngahere we did a steam challenge. Our challenge was to build a free standing paper tower out of 2 pieces of newspaper and 30 cm of tape. Building the tower was hard because while we were building it the base wasn’t staying together but in the end it stood up. What I did well was not getting the tape mixed up. What I could do better is talk to my group more because I wasn’t really talking to my group. What worked well was that our tower could stand 1m high. I think that the base made it taller because it was wider and able to hold it up high.

MATH DLO

What I learned about in Math
In Te Ngahere we have been making Math DLOs  about the new strategies that we learnt. I learnt a division strategy that is hard because I didn’t know my times tables. I also did one about adding. That one is easy because I just need to add three numbers that had three digits. It was hard for me to learn both because I need to learn my times tables for division and I got confused with all the carrying.
Bye
Hope you enjoy the recording.

Movie making

This week In Te Ngahere we have been making movies. My group (Jack, Franky and Mark O) are making a movie about a bear hunt. We had to write a script for our movie bear hunt and bring what we needed for the movie like cups. In the movie I am the bear Jack is the movie director Franky and Mark o are Billy and Bob. We haven't finished the movie but here is the script.I found the script writing hard because it is not easy to think about what view to do for everything to make it funny or show more emotion. What do you guys think about our movie script? In a few weeks I will post my movie so stay in tune.

Rugby

In Te Ngahere the Taniwha rugby team came to visit Paihia School. We got to talk to them about their life
and how they got in to rugby. The 3 that came spent 1 to 2 years playing for the Taniwha. After we had
asked some questions we got to play a game. I can’t remember what it was called but the Taniwha had
to hit us with the balls and if we got hit we had to help them throw balls at everyone. I had a really fun
time playing with the players. They said that it doesn't matter how skill full you are it matters if you try
and do it. Like if your skillful it doesn't mean you will be a famous sportsperson unless you do it and
commit to it. To sum that up they said you need to have a great attitude.

Beach clean up

In Te Ngahere we went down to the  beach clean-up. We had to walk down to the beach and get into groups of three  or four. Once we got into groups we went around the beach and picked up all of the rubbish.  My group and I found a dead crab. We also found tons of glass. We found glass that wasn’t sharp anymore. I found more rubbish in between rocks or in the bush then I did on the real beach. I enjoyed this because we got to find things that was dumped into places. I learnt that people are lazy sometimes and chuck their rubbish in the rocks or just throw it on the beach. People are till drinking on the beach even though there is a liquor ban. The empty alcohol bottles are evidence of this. The most common rubbish was glass and plastic which is bad because the rubbish can go into the sea and kill our sea life. We need to find a solution to this problem so we don’t kill all the fish. Do you guys have any ideas?

Dimensions

In Te Ngahere We were learning about what the three dimensions are to a character. We were learning this because we needed to know what the dimensions are for our writing and the movie marathon that we will be making at the end of the year.  We also made character DLOs. We made them to show that we know what the 3 dimensions are. The first dimension is what they look like or what you can see on the surface. The second one is there backstory, fears family history and their dreams. The last dimension is what there desires are and who they are. We had to write some examples and write what the dimensions meant in our own words. After that we were allowed to decorate our DLOs.  Something that was tricky was having to find the 2nd dimension because it was hard to find there backstory. Now that I know how to do this it can help me with my writing.
Here is my DLO

Energize

In Te Ngahere we have been doing project energise.
For today we have done it about drinks and what drinks
are good and bad for you. Drinks that weren’t good for
you were things like V, Mother and Red bull.  Things that
you should not have lots of are Powerade, milkshakes and
juice. Things that are good for you are water and milk because
they don’t have any sugar in them. I learnt that drinks that have
flavours usually aren’t that good for you because they have
sugar or they have fake sugar in them. We were learning this
because we need to keep healthy and if we know this we
will know what is good for us and what isn’t that good for us.

Soccer

In the weekend I played soccer for a team called Paihia Swords (12th
grade).
We played Kaio B. Kaio B kind of cheated because they had some of
another team playing for them (Kaio A).When we realized we said
that they were Kaio C. We started the game and I was in defence
left back. Left back is when you are behind the halfway mark and you
can go past it but your not meant to. We were struggling on the first
half but we still keep the ball on their side of the field. Sebastian
scored the first goal of the game on the second half Isaiah M scored
the second goal. It was a long game but in the end we won. The score
was 4 to 0.My favorite part was when I got a chance to get the ball
and when I hit the ball with my head.

Reading

In Te Ngahere for reading we have been learning about the
3 dimensions to a character. The first dimension is what they
look like, the things they wear and anything that describes the
character. The second dimension is their backstory like what
makes them who they are and there dreams.
The third dimension is who they truly are, what their
decisions are, their desires and their wants. My favorite
dimension is the 2nd because it's fun to find out what
made them who they are. The hardest dimension for me was
2nd because, I had to read really closely to find things about
what made them who they are. What is your favorite dimension?

Healthy Foods

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about healthy things to
eat with Whaea Gina. We learnt what foods were better for
us and what foods aren't that good for us. We learnt that
you shouldn’t eat that much fat and what food had lots
of fat and the least fat. For example, Mcdonalds, KFC and Burger
King have more fat than Subway, Salad and Sushi. Something that I
learnt is that fat chips are better than thin chips because the thin
chips absorb more fat than fat chips.

Science

In Te Ngahere we have been doing science fair for the past 8 weeks.
Last friday we got 3 judges to determine who is going to the Kerikeri
competition. It was a long hour of talking about our boards and
standing up. The first class to come in was Nga Motu they didn’t
really come to see ours. ( Me,Franky and Dayton) they were interested
in rugby and others. The second class to come in was Te Moana. More
of Te Moana came to see ours which we were happy about. The last
class to come in was Te Maunga. My favorite part was when we got
to look at each others science projects. Something that I found hard
was explaining the work and writing it all up. I’m proud of
having a go at science fair.

Well bye.

Science

In Te Ngahere we have been doing science fair. Me and my group
are doing what food attracts rats the best. I am working with Franky
and Dayton. Me and Franky set our traps today. We used 3 different
types of food. Peanut butter cheese and dried fruit. We set them by
the bridge. On the first day we caught a rat and the bait was
dried fruit. We think the Peanut Butter will attract the most rats
because it has a strong smell and it fits into a rats diet and its
stick so that the rat will play with it to activate the trap

Rippa Rugby

In Te Ngahere the year 6 Rippa Rugby team competed in a
championship. The rippa rugby team played in Hikurangi.
We got a big break before we had our first game. We played 3 teams.
We won, one, tied one and then lost one. I think I could work on my
ripping. I loved playing with other teams and trying to get a try.

Well blog you later.

Project Island Song

In Te Ngahere some of the year sixes and fives were apart of Project Island Song. Before we went we had to do biosecurity which is when we wipe our feet and check our bags so no seeds and pests came to the islands. First we walked up a big hill to a place were we could plant trees. The tree that I planted had rock hard roots and the dirt was also hard to get out. After we planted the trees we had to go back over the hill again. Once we got back we built traps to kill the pests. Some people built weta houses and Rat traps. My group trap didn’t go well because we built it to tight and it didn't close.
After we got back we made a DLO about what we learnt.

Rippa Rubgy

In Te Ngahere some of the year 6s went to a Rippa Rugby tournament. We went to Rippa Rugby on Tuesday the 4th of June . We played in Kaikohe it was a long drive. After we got there we had a warm up. The games finally started and I was excited but the first team that we were going to play wasn’t there. So we had a game with another team that didn’t have a game as well. The game was just for fun. We won that game but it was only a half time because the team we were meant to play arrived half way through the game. Our last game we played was to  qualify for the qualifying tournaments we bet the team but it was a little bit of a struggle.
Something I did well was passed the ball and ripped a lot of peoples tags. Something I could do better is run up and believe in myself.

Talent Quest

Date:
My Writing: Hi bloggers.
Last week on Friday Paihia School had a talent quest.
My favorite act was Vaughan because he had the most amazing jokes.
he had most of the school laughing! One joke had me nearly crying.
I also loved the dancing. Samuel made me laugh and it was awesome,
he danced alone and had glasses that lit up red.I loved the Talent Quest
and I believe that next time I might try the talent quest.
The winners did a great job but I believe everyone won.

Ngahere

Date:
My Writing: On Monday the 18th of February we were learning to make virtual trees on Tinkercad and birds on Paint3d. Whaea Kerry & Whaea Monika visited us at Paihia School to tell us we were going to finish our identity project. We first made trees on Tinkercad because Te Ngahere (My Class) means the bush. So we made up a forest of different trees. Whaea Monika made a Norfolk Pine Tree. For example when we completed that task we made what might be in the ngahere like birds, insects, rivers, bees and spider on Paint3d to find the insects and birds we got on the 3d library where we can find 3d objects. Once we finished Whaea Kerry made a Virtual Reality video (that isn't finished yet bits of  the video is not finished). Some of the parts we saw was birdś eggs, a birds nest, flying bugs and a balloon, that personally I thought was weird, Whaea Monika and Whaea Kerry are still working on the video. I enjoyed making birds on Paint3d and something I did well is asking Mark if I needed help with something.

THE Nagahere

Kia Ora Bloggers!! On Thursday and Friday the year sixes travelled on a bus to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds for the day. The year sixes split in half; some went for a hikoi and the others had a little play with Virtual Reality, SculptGL, Paint 3D, Tinkercad, Dashbot (Robot coding), Green Screen & Stop Motion. The people that went for a hikoi gazed upon a waka and took pictures of Māori carvings and native trees. Later we had morning tea we were all hungry after the long hikoi. After morning tea the first group that went for a hikoi played with the Virtual Reality, SculptGL,Paint 3D Tinkercad, Dashbot, Green Screen & Stop Motion with Whea Kerry and the other group went for a hikoi with Whaea Monika. First me and Mark.O were on Tinkercad, and then Virtual Reality. It was like I was in  another world, where I could just draw and play around. Green Screen was amazing, we went invisible. Then stop motion movies and Mark made a movie about a monster chasing two people in the end the people escape on their boat. On Paint3D I made patterns, Mark just played around, it was funny. For robot coding we made them race, that was fun they, crashed a lot and in the end Mark won. The last thing we did was SculptGL, we carved Māori patterns and played around. Something I think I did well is when I was on the VR just drawing some images and something I could do better is SculptGL, because I only drawed a couple patterns and then played with the tools. Witting

What I’ve been learning to do in writing is a motion in time and descriptive
writing.like mine. The clawed monster are coming! The children are
worried and terrified. With one wing each crabing each others hand to fly like butterflies flutter in the air.Higher and higher hovering above the creatures of horror.
Hearing there horrifying cries below them paralyzed  with fear.
Gliding through the air with the wind brushing against their faces.
Soaring like birds away from the creatures with jagged claws and
pitch black fur like a dark coat around them.Flying to the beautiful sun
set while the sun simmered well it was falling.

Marble run

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to make a marble run. The first thing my group did was
collect different materials to make our ramp. Our goal was to make our marble go 110 cm away
from the end of our ramp.To actually make a ramp we had to learn about friction and variables.
Friction is the thing that will make it go faster or slow it down. So say I rolled a marble on carpet
it would go slower because of friction but if I rolled it on smooth ground it would go really fast
because it would have less friction.Variables is what you change like what you make your ramp
out of you could change what its made of or where it is and that will change the results.  Something I
could do better is put the ramp in a better position and something I did well is worked well with my
team. I really enjoyed making the ramp.

Coding

In Te Ngahere,  the people that were up to date got to do coding with Whaea Becks in the Whare. Our goal was to code a robot to go away from us then back to us. Something that I could do better was not to muck around and something I did do good was making the  the robot came and go. For a bit Shay played around but in the end we got there. The first people that made the robot come and go was Jahrell and Ricardo that was awesome coding is hard to do. We did do well at coding though I pretty sure we could have done better

Hi bloggers! On Monday the 18th of February we were learning to make virtual trees on tinkercad and birds

doubling and halving

Hi bloggers, In math I have been learning about doubling and halving.Doubling and halving is when you double and halve the numbers. Something that I did well was that I learnt that you had to divide and times by 2 so that made doubling and halving easier for me. Here is an example for doubling and halving

Magician

On the 27th of February a magician came to Paihia School to teach us
about eating healthy food and not junk food like chocolate and chips.
First thing he did was magic tricks with fire. He set his arm on fire
but his shirt wasn’t burnt at all. I was surprised, confused and amazed.
The magician made bunnies and doves, again I was surprised.
One trick I knew how to do was the money that he made more of
because if you looked at the top there was a pocket on the top where
money fell out of. Still I thought it was cool. My favorite trick was
when he made bunnies and doves. Another thing was when Shay
dressed up like a baby that was funny.

Sea Cleaners

At Paihia School some people called the Sea Cleaners came to Paihia School on
the 12 of march 2019. The Sea Cleaners came to tell us what they do.
They clean up rubbish from the ocean to keep the marine life safe and to
tell us what they found. They found have found polystyrene, plastic bags
and two anchors. One of the anchors was disintegrating.
I learnt that we should pick up rubbish, when we see it. Something that
I could do better is picking up my rubbish and others rubbish.
Another thing is that we should all be cleaning up the beach even
one piece of rubbish is enough that’s if everyone picks up one piece
every time they go to the beach.
