WaCky WedNESdaY

Hi, this week we had the best day because it was Wacky Wednesday. Wacky Wednesday is a day that we all dress up and wear funny things for example wigs, dresses and more,  really you could wear whatever you want. I think that Mama K (Kahsuis) is the best dressed because he’s wearing a tutu a wig and he even painted his nails.  My favorite part of Wacky Wednesday is that everyone dresses up in funny yet awesome outfits.  What I think that I did well was dressing up because I dressed up like an army man and I wore a wig. What I will do in the future or next time is wear a dress or something like that because I like my costume but I think I could go outside my comfort zone next time.

Do you have Wacky Wednesday at your school?

Image Attribution

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to attribute images.  Attributing images means giving credit to the artist or author who made or took the photo. To attribute an image you need to find their name (author’s name), name of the image and what it is licenced under.

What I learned from this is how to attribute an image from Google and how to find images that you can use.

Now that I know this I can use it in the future if I make an animation and get an image off Google.

What I think that I could do better is attribute all images that I use because I haven't been doing that. What I think I did well was finding images and making sure I didn’t breach the copyright of  anyone's work.

Will you all start attributing images now?

Bio Poems

Hi,  in Te Ngahere for Tuhi Tuhi we have been doing a Bio poem. I made mine for my dad because it was fathers day and also I love my dad. What I found hard was finding something that he doesn't like because I couldn’t think of anything that he didn’t like .  What I found easy was finding something that he liked because my dad loves a lot of things. If I were to do this again I would do it for my mum because it would be really easy and also I love my mum.

Have you made a bio poem before?

Emoji Movie Guessing

Hi, in Te Ngahere for our school google hangouts we have been doing emoji movie guessing. The emoji movie guessing is when there are some emojis that represent a movie and we have to guess what the movie is. So Me and my friend Shay made our own one.  I think that we did pretty well because the movie’s aren’t really easy to guess but aren’t impossible. What we could have done better is add more and also make the picture’s png so we can add a background.

If you try my emoji movie guessing game can you please rate it?

Four Shot Amazement

Hi, in Te Ngahere we have been learning about for different shots. The four shots we used for our four shot movie were establishing shot, long shot, medium shot & close up.

The medium shows more interesting detail and what they are doing, long shots show less of the setting a little of the person or thing, close ups are used to show the thing or person with full detail and establishing shots which tells the audience where and when the story is taking place. What me and my group did well was that our carema wasn’t shaking and also we got our movie done fast. What we could have done better  was when I kicked the ball I should have kicked it higher and also get our characters to move more. I think this can help me and my group when we make our movie to add more detail to our setting and characters.

Nanogirls Amazing Show

Hi, last week Nanogirl a famous scientist came to our school and put on an amazing show. She beat gravity by using a force called centripetal force. My favorite part of Nanogirl show was when she said she wanted to be like Mahuika the god of fire, she used science to help her become the god Mahuika. She used science to be able to set her hands on fire. What I learned from Nanogirl’s show is that great scientists make mistakes and they never give up and I shouldn't give up. How I could use this in the future is if I make a mistake I shouldn’t give up and keep trying.

Has Nano girl ever came to your school?

Dot plot Graph

Kia ora on the first week of term three we started learning about Dot Plot graphs. A dot plot is a type of graph that measures length or an amount. I learnt what a dot plot graph is and also I learnt how to make one. After we had learnt how to make a dot plot graph we had to make a DLO.] Whaea Becks made an example DLO and I think hers is better than mine because she explained what range meant and also she explained it a lot better.  What I could have done Better in my DLO is explain it more and be more clear.

Have you learnt about dot plot graphs?

Marble Rerun

Hi, at the end of term 2 we did a rerun of the Great Marble Challenge. The great marble challenge is when we make a ramp out of whatever we want but a marble has to roll down the ramp and make it 110cms away from the end of your ramp. For our rerun we got to make a new ramp or modify our ramp my group smashed our ramp and made a new one but we still used blocks. We made sure our instructions were clear this time because last time they weren’t so clear and also we made so that our ramp was stable. I think we improved from our last attempt because last time got zero points but this time we got around 20 points. Have you done this before?

Science Fair or Science Struggle

Hi , for the past three weeks we have been doing science fair. What I learned while we were doing science fair is what a method is and what a method is used for. A method is a step by step plan of what you are going to do. I also learned all about the scientific method, fair testing and variables. What I found difficult was testing people for our science fair because they wouldn’t listen to Me and my group. If I had a chance to do this again what I would do differently is choose more sensible people to test. The main hoe that I had to use was Tu Maia which means resilience, I had to use this hoe because I struggled quite a bit.

Have you ever done science fair before?

Amazing Marble Ramps

Hi, last week in Te Ngahere we did a Great Marble Challenge. The Great marble Challenge is when we build ramps trying to get a marble to stop  110cm away from the end of the ramp. Also we had to write instructions on how to build our ramp because someone else would be testing our ramp. What was something your group did well? Something that my group and I did well was building a ramp. Talking about our ramp and coming up with lots of ideas. What is something you could have done better?

We could have made our instructions more specific and made our structure more stable so it doesn’t break as easily as it does and maybe we could change the angle so it doesn’t go as far as it did.

How many points did you get?We got 0 points! Why do you think your ramp was or was not successful? Why? Why not?

Our group was not successful because the ramp broke, also our instructions were not as clear as all the other ramps instructions. How clear were your instructions? What was something you explained well?  What was something that needed to be clearer?

Our instructions were not clear at all. We think that we need to improve the first step because it was using the same word too much and didn’t really make sense. If you had an opportunity to design a new ramp.  What would you change? Improve?

What we could improve on with our instructions is be more clear and also explain how to build our ramp. We should also get someone else to test our instruction next time. What we could improve on is making our ramp stable because it broke on test day.

Have you done this before?

Unique Science Roadshow

Hi, lately in Te Ngahere we went to Bay of Islands Collage because there was a science roadshow going on there. We watched two shows, there was one about gases and the other one was about experimenting. We went to the science roadshow because we are going to be doing our own science fair. What I learnt was that gases can actually take up space and that some gases are really deadly. My favorite exhibit was can we pass electricity through our hands because There were different plates of steel like copper and aluminum.

Have you ever been to the science roadshow?

The Amazing Scientific Method

Hi, lately in Te Ngahere we have been learning about the scientific method. We are learning about this because we are going to be doing a science fair. We had to make infographics explaining the scientific method. What I did well was making my infographic. What I could do better is understand the method more than I do. I could use this in future because I am thinking of becoming a scientist now that I am learning more of what they do.

Do you know what The scientific method is?

Magic Mosaic

Kia Ora lately in Te Ngahere we have been making mosaic art of animals or our idol. A mosaic is made up of lots of little shapes that end up looking like an animal or a person. We had to make small shapes using the polyline tool. We are making these to decorate our class and because we are making videos that we are going to put on QR codes. What I think I did well was making my mosaic of a Black Panther. What I can do better next time is to try and  use smaller shapes to make my mosaic look better. I could use this in the future if I become a artist.

Have you made a mosaic before?

Maori Feelings

Kia Ora, lately in Te Ngahere we have been learning how to say feelings in Maori because it’s one of our official languages and we need to learn how to pronounce Maori words. We learnt feelings like happy in maori which is harikoa we also learnt sad, hot and cold. I really enjoyed this because I love Te reo Maori and its fun learning new things. What I found hard was making a DLO  and pronouncing the words harikoa, Ka nui te pai and Kaore I te pai. I hope that you like my DLO that I made.

Can you say the some of feelings in Te reo Maori?

Amazing Tech

Kia Ora lately in Te Ngahere the year 8 and 7s went to tech. I am doing tech with Mr E and we are making a waka using power tools and planks of wood. This week I was cutting out my piece of wood out and filing my piece of wood so that both sides were straight and even.

What I found hard was filling my piece of wood and making it straight. What I found easy was cutting my piece of wood out. I now need to use sand paper and make the front and back of my waka curved.

Have you ever made a waka before?

Cyber Danger

Hi lately in Te Ngahere we have been learning about smart relations on the internet. We are learning about how to be smart in our online relationships and to seek help when we need it. What I will do in the future now is not talk to strangers and not share personal information to make sure I am safe. We were learning about this to be safe online and to learn what is good to share and not good to share online.

Have you ever learned about this before?

If I Were a

Hi lately in Te Ngahere we have been doing something called, If I Were. our WALT or what we are learning to do was to use words from the text and what we already know to come to a conclusion about what the author is describing. What we had to do for this was guess what a poem was talking about using our knowledge and what the poem says. For example  the poem would say If I were a, I would range over farms, plains, houses, cities and seas then we would have to write what we think the poem is describing. What I found hard was finding out what it was because in the poem it says black billowing skirts and I didn’t know what that meant. What I found easy was after I found out what it was I found it easy to explain why.

Have you done something like this before?

Digital Fish

Kia Ora lately in Te Ngahere we have been learning how to use the tools on google drawing. We were learning this so we had more creative ways to make DLOs. We had to draw marine life like sharks, fish or even stingrays. I drew two sharks some fish and a stingray I want to draw a jellyfish. What I think that I did well was drawing the fish. What I found hard was getting the right shape for the fish.

Have you ever made something like this before?

P.E. Blast

HI bloggers in Te Ngahere we have been doing P.E. rotations with Te Maunga. For P.E. rotations we have been doing touch with Mr Ngata, soccer with Whaea Penny and Gina, netball with Whaea Chrissy and Whaea Ronnie and skill games with Whaea Becks. For the first rotation I did touch. For touch Mr Ngata was teaching us how to pass the ball properly he also taught us a couple of the rules. In the end we had a couple quick games of touch. The fields were pretty small but that wasn’t bad.  What I think that I did was passing the ball and following the directions. What I could have done better is talking with teammates when we played the game.

Have you ever played touch before?

Bye Cooking Hello Wood Works

Kia Ora yesterday(04/05/21) we went to tech but this time I wasn’t doing cooking with Whaea Dot, I was doing woodwork with Mr E/Mr Edwards. With Mr E we are making a waka out of wood. Mr E walked around the workshop and explained a bit about all the tools that we could use. What I think that I did well was drawing the outline of the waka because I finished on the second try and I think I am good at drawing. What I could have done better is cutting out the waka because I cut it out very bad.

Have you made a waka out of wood before?

Can I Follow Directions?

On the first day back at school we did a reading test. Whaea Becks gave us all a sheet of paper that had 23 directions on it. We had to follow all the directions that were on the sheet of paper.

The first direction was, read everything carefully before doing anything. I didn’t read all the directions because I thought you had to read a direction then follow it. If I had read the whole thing first I would have realized I only needed to do the directions 1 & 2 then quietly draw on the back of the paper. I got to the 19th direction then Whaea Becks called us all down to the mat and then I realized if I followed the first direction I would have read the last direction which said: “now that you have finished reading everything do directions one and two then quietly draw on the back of this paper”. What I could have done better is follow all the directions or follow the success criteria. What I think that I did well was following all the directions expect the first one.

Can you follow directions?

Te Reo Maori

Kia Ora. In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to pronounce our Maori words correctly. We go on a site called Education Perfect which helps us pronounce Te Reo Maori.  We had to make a DLO about what we have learnt. We had to record ourselves saying Maori Greetings, the Maori Alphabet and Places names. Something that I did well was saying pronouncing the words properly. What I need to work on is pronouncing my Maori words more often.

Have you used education perfect before?

Web Surfing

Kia Ora lately in Te Ngahere we have been learning about Smart Surfing. Smart Surfing is how you search on Google. Normally when you type a question on Google you would write the whole thing but you can get a more accurate answer by typing  in the keywords. Keywords are the main words like in  this question what do spiders eat? The keywords are spider and eat because they are the main words or main idea. The reason it's best to write the keywords is because if you write the whole question what do spiders eat? Google will send out digital spiders and they look for pages with all the words that you searched for. So if you just write spiders eat and search that you won’t get pages that have nothing to do with what you searched just pages about spiders and what they eat. The hardest thing for me was finding all the links to sites with the information.

Have you ever learnt about this before?

Coastal Seas

Ki Ora, lately in Te Ngahere we have been learning about coastal seas. We watched a video on Netflix that taught us all about the coastal seas and what live in them. The narrator for the documentary was David Attenborough. The coastal seas is made up of coral reefs, kelp forests and lots more. There are sea animals from the smallest like anchovies to massive humpback whales. Coral reefs are actually dying from global warming. Coastal seas are beautiful. My favorite things in coastal seas is the coral reefs because of the sharks and how they hunt.

Here is al DLO that I made that has a lot of information on it about

Have you learnt about coastal seas before?

Walk in the Te Ngahere

On Wednesday we went for a walk through the Ngahere because we are learning about ecosystems and what lives in them. Went for the walk to gather information about all the creatures and plants in the Ngahere. I sore lots of different types of ferns. I did see one creature which was a fantail. There were meter long spiders webs going from one tree to another. There were vines growing on trees (Produser) and even mushrooms that were growing on trees. my favorite thing that I sore was a fantail (consumer) hopping around on the branches. I know that I need to be a bit more quiet when in the Ngahere. What I did well was noticing all the different types of plants.

How many types of ferns can you name?

Task Smashers

Lately in Te Ngahere we been doing a team building exercise called taskmaster.

For this challenge we had to draw a picture that we couldn’t see but  the runners (Mikaira and Jayden) could         only see the drawing sadly, I was the drawer and wasn’t allowed to see the drawing. The runners could go outside and look at the picture that our teacher had drawn. The runner would have to tell the drawer what to draw and where to draw it but the runner couldn’t touch the paper. We got to do two attempts. I found being the drawer for the first attempt really hard because I couldn’t see the drawing and I had to trust Mikaira and Jayden. What worked well on the first attempt was our communication we talked really well together. What didn’t work well on the first attempt was  the timer because it put us under stress and I wasn’t able to see the drawing that I was copying. What was challenging was not being able to see the paper. For the second attempt what we did well was talking more and also we weren’t yelling at each other. What didn’t work well on our second attempt was not knowing what I was drawing. What was challenging on the second attempt was still not being able to see the paper and having to draw under the pressure.

Have you seen the show taskmasters?

Food Webs

Lately in Te Ngahere we have been learning about food webs. A food web is a web that shows you what animals eat what and where the energy  from each animal comes from and goes to. Here are two of the food webs the first one is mine and the second one is Whaea Becks.

Here are some differences between ours. My food web is different to Whaea Beck’s because she has color coded hers and I haven’t. Also  she has added more detail by adding more of what animals eat. The last thing that is different between ours is the lay out and how many arrows because she has added more of what all the animals eat. The arrows might look like they are facing the wrong way but they actually aren't they are facing this way because it is the way the energy is transferred. For example the stoat and kiwi the energy is transferred from the kiwi to the stoat. What I could have done better is learn a bit more about these animals and what they eat also I could have color coded it as well. What I think that I have done well is that I tried to not make my food web too messy.

Can you see anymore differences between the two food webs?

Cooking to the Extreme

Last week we went to tech at Morewa School. Tech is where you do cooking or you do woodwork for this term, the year 8s did cooking and the year 7s did woodwork. For cooking we have a teacher called Wheae Dot. At the start she introduced herself and told us abit about her life. For that day we were going to be cooking pizza pinwheels. We had to cut a lot of vegetables and we even had to cut some bacon and grate some cheese, we also had to make our own dough. After we had done all that we had to lay tomato paste all over our dough and put all of our veggies and meat on top of the dough.

The hardest part to me was rolling the dough with everything in it. What I could do better next is to take my time and not rush through the whole thing as fast as I can.

Have you ever cooked pizza pinwheels.

Well blogger out.

What is the Kawa of Care?

Lately in Te Ngahere we have been learning about the kawa of care. We had to make an animation about the kawa of care, but before we did that we needed to learn a bit more about the kawa of care. The kawa of care is a document that you agree to when you buy a chromebook. It tells you how to keep your chromebook safe. Here is a DLO that Me, Brooklyn and Mark made.

What else do you know about the kawa of care?

Art of Arts

Hi bloggers my name is Mikaire and I am a year eight at Paihia School. Lately in Te Ngahere we have been learning  about Roy Lichtenstein. Roy Lichtenstein is a famous pop art, artist. Roy Lichtenstein’s art is made of colors and dots like comic books.

Here are some intriguing facts about Roy Lichtenstein he was Born: 27 October 1923, Died: 29 September 1997. His Children are David Lichtenstein and Mitchell Lichtenstein.

I think that I could have done better because I know I could have got more facts about him. I think that I have done well because I have found a lot of facts but I know I could have done better.

Do you have a favorite painting that was made by Roy lichtenstein?
